The Red Car

Shannon's 82 Mustang was part of the inspiration to start Western Motorsports back in 1989. It has to be one of the most successful race Mustangs and has been regularly competing for more than 30 years. Primarily built for Autocross competition, 'The Red Car' can still run circles around most modern cars. Some highlights include:

  • Calgary Sports Car Club Champion 1990-1997
  • Alberta Champion 1994-1996
  • Alberta / BC Champion 1993 - 1996
  • All Ford Weekend Champion 1992-1996
  • SASC Classic American Muscle Champion 2020 - 2024
  • SCCA National Packwood CAM-T winner 2024

Still has the prototype WMS Xtrac subframe connectors that were installed in 1989

It has had a few version of 302s through the years and originally ran a Holley Pro-jection that had 3 screws for tuning - low, mid and high! The current engine is a 331 Stroker in a stock block with a main girdle, ported Edelbrock heads, Bullet Hydraulic roller cam and Yella Terra shaft rockers. WMS built the custom dual throttle body intake years many years ago, partly for a broad power band and partly for style. The Red Car has been used to test many EFI systems through the years including our SDS and now our Fox version of the Terminator X.

18x9.75" XXR wheels with 275/35/18 Bridgestones are squeezed into the stock fenders, yes rear fender lips have been rolled.

Suspension includes tubular k-member and arms, Koni coil overs and the WMS rear adjustable rear spring kit along with a number of other Maximum Motorsports parts. The rear suspension is a custom 3 link with lanyard that we built.

For 2024 a MK60E5 ABS system was added. Braking while turning makes a big difference in Autocross!

Interior in simple and clean with Corbeau seats, aluminum rear seat delete, 4pt roll bar, Momo wheel and Holley Digital Dash.
